Bosch Dishwasher E24 and E25: Drain Errors Explained
Standing water and a code that won’t clear. What each code means, the checks you can do with a spoon and a towel, and how to tell a blockage from a failed pump.

E24 or E25: which part of the drain is it?
| Code | What Bosch says | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| E24 | Not draining properly; drain filter blocked | Filter, drain hose (kinks, clogs), sink drain or disposal connection, disposal knockout plug on a new install |
| E25 | Drain pump blocked, or the pump cover is loose or missing | Under the filter: the pump cover and the pump impeller (glass, pits, labels, bone) |
Symptoms Bosch lists for E24 are water pooling in the bottom after a cycle, the machine pausing or stopping mid-cycle, and gurgling or humming noises.
Checks you can do
Switch the dishwasher off at the panel and unplug it or switch off its circuit first. Some debris in the pump can be sharp: Bosch warns about glass.
- Remove and rinse the filter at the bottom of the tub. Scoop or sponge out the standing water first.
- Check the pump cover under the filter. If it is loose, seat it. To check the pump, Bosch’s method is to pry the cover with a spoon until it clicks, pull it up until you feel resistance, then pull it forward to remove it.
- Clear the pump. Remove anything you can see, then check that the impeller turns. Refit the cover so it locks, and reseat the filter.
- Check the drain hose under the sink: no kinks where the dishwasher was pushed back, and a high loop or air gap as installed.
- New garbage disposal? If the problem started right after a disposal was installed, the knockout plug inside its dishwasher inlet is probably still there.
- Reset the code as your owner’s manual describes and run a short cycle.
If you aren’t comfortable reaching into the sump, or the water won’t go down at all, scoop out what you can and leave the filter and pump to the visit.
When the path is clear and the code comes back
| What you notice | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Humming or buzzing at drain time, no water moves | Drain pump jammed or failed |
| Silence at drain time | Drain pump not getting power: pump motor, wiring or control |
| Water drains, then some flows back into the tub | Check valve, or the drain hose installed without a high loop |
| Sink drains slowly too | The house drain or disposal, not the dishwasher |
| Dishes dirty but no drain code | A wash problem, not a drain one: often the circulation pump (example) |

What we check on a drain-code call
The drain side is quick to check: filter, drain pump, check valve, the drain hose loop and the garbage-disposal connection. Each code points to a circuit, not a part, so we confirm the cause before replacing anything. A drain pump is a routine repair on a Bosch, and on panel-ready units we diagnose in place as far as possible before pulling the machine, to protect the custom panel and the floor.
