Cooking-appliance faults divide cleanly by fuel. On electric ovens the usual suspects are the bake or broil element, the temperature sensor and the relays on the control board. On gas ovens the most common failure is a weak hot-surface igniter: it still glows, but it no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve, so the oven never lights. How a visit works

Usually yes. A worn igniter can still glow while drawing too little current to open the oven safety valve. It is measured with a meter, not judged by eye.
